We just can’t tell you how much this high nutrient lifestyle has blessed our family! Five years ago, at the age of 49, Don appeared to be in perfect health. He has always been physically active and at 5’ 7” (170 cm) and 152 pounds (69 kg) seemed to “have it all.”
In July of 2001, while taking his daily walk, he began to experience pressure in his chest. To make a long story short, it was found that his left anterior descending artery, in his heart, was 95% blocked and a stent was put in. The doctors told us we were “lucky”: had he actually had a heart attack, he would have died instantly. His cholesterol was 259 (6.71) with LDL at 178 (4.61) and HDL at 42 (1.09). His blood pressure was high, as well, so the cardiologist put him on cholesterol and BP lowering medication and aspirin. We began to try and make better choices as far as our diets were concerned and Don followed up with the cardiologists regularly to try and control his blood pressure and cholesterol
This past June, Don once again began to have some chest discomfort and was admitted to the hospital for a catheterization. While we waited for the procedure, we received a phone call from some good friends of ours. They told us about the Nutritarian lifestyle and encouraged us to try it as soon as possible. We immediately began to implement the changes in our lives. We have to tell you, we were amazed at the results!
Within 2 weeks, Don lost 12 pounds (5.5 kg) and his blood pressure dropped to the point where he no longer needed to take his blood pressure medication. In following the plant-based diet, taking whole food supplements, and continuing to remain physically active, Don’s weight went from 152 down to 132 (69 to 60 kg); he was able to discontinue all of his medication—blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood thinner; his cholesterol went from 221 (5.72) on medication down to 171 (4.43) off medication; and his LDL went from 164 down to 103 (4.25 to 2.67). His BP while taking his medication was generally in the range of the 120’s over 80. Now, without medication, his blood pressure averages dropped around 118 over 65: all this in 8 short weeks! Laura has lost 10 pounds (4.5 kg) and is enjoying improved health and energy as well.
We want to thank you for helping us understand how important it is to “Eat For Health” by giving our bodies the food we need for proper nutrition and rebuilding our health. Our children are learning, right along with us, and we are confident they will be able to avoid many of the health issues caused by poor diet and lack of exercise.
